ANBERNIC RG 34XX
I didn’t have a Game
Boy (released April 1989) or a Game Boy Color (released October 1998) when I was younger and they first came out, I do now own a Game
Boy Color but don't really use it much, I think in part, it is the
thought of having to change a cartridge when starting a new game.
A couple of days ago I took delivery of an Anbernic RG 34XX. The 34 in the title "RG 34XX" refers to the screen size 3.4", which at my age is probably smaller than I should be using, however it is a larger screen than the Game Boy Micro I have so I'll give it a go. My passion for handheld consoles does not diminish the more I purchase.
Just looking at it and
you can see where Anbernic got their design aesthetic from, is that a
Game Boy Advance I see before me? No it's an Anbernic RG 34XX. I'll
probably treat it like a horizontal Game Boy and install Game Boy
games on a microSD card and see how I get on considering the screen
size. After copying my catalogue of Game Boy, Game Boy Colour and
Game Boy Advance games to a 32GB microSD card I realised I had a bit
of space left so I added some Game Gear, Master System, NES, Wonder
Swan and Neo Geo games.
As usual I need to
decide on stand alone emulators or RetroArch with front end, and as
this is going to be set up mainly to play Game Boy games, I will go
with RetroArch and my preferred front end, which is, Daijisho, it’s free and
quite light weight so will cater for my needs on this machine. With
not many machines being emulated Daijisho will keep them all quite
neatly allowing for quick accessing and a standardised look and
format across all the machines and will show box art for all games
across all the platforms.
I now have the
catalogues I own for the platforms I intend on emulating on this
RG 34XX copied, onto a 32GB microSD card, into their respective
folders, RetroArch is installed and the necessary cores downloaded
and Daijisho is installed.
Now time to try a few
games and see how they play, I have no fears as the platforms I am
emulating are not very power hungry and so should run just fine on
the RG 34XX.
I'm going to be spending one full day out of the house this coming week and will have nowhere to charge my hardware so I'm planning on taking this Anbernic RG 34XX and possibly my AYN Odin 2 Mini and take along my newly purchased INIU 20000mAh Power Bank, I'm preparing for a long day out with no access to power, of course I will have my mobile phone with me too.
