AI GENERATED POINT AND CLICK ADVENTURE PART 1

AI GENERATED POINT AND CLICK ADVENTURE PART 1

The Castle of Carpathia

After the fun I had creating the music player inTune using Copilot I thought I'd give other AI environments a go, I finally settled on Tesana, firstly asking it “make a 2D graphic adventure game” and just asking that simple question and it kicked into action. It started by making a game plan which included the title “The Castle of Carpathia”, the pitch, the genre, the main character, perspective, core loop, controls, winning and losing, platform, tone, theme, inspiration, world, progression and look, I know quite a lot and I'd not really done anything.

It now started exploring actions, not quite sure what that meant at first and then it stated it was looking over art references, preparing sprites, preparing rooms, preparing puzzles, preparing story text and the hand-inked room art. It carried on telling me it was editing files, exploring other actions and then editing files again, there seemed to be quite a bit going on without any interaction from me.

After a while it told me room art and props were written and all the sounds (wind, wolves, creaking doors) were all now created in code, a bit more editing and it told me story, puzzles and sounds are in place. There were some more editing and I was informed a couple of fixes were in place and a compile check was done.

After a few more minutes it gave me a synopsis on how to play, the look and what information was worth knowing. Before I knew it the game had been published, all this after one single command. I was even given a web address where I could play the game.

The look was very gothic and hovering over specific items in the starting room gave me options of looking at the item or an action, so I tried the room door, so hovering over the door I was given the options to “Look” or “Open” so I selected look. My character “Jonathan Harker” moved to the right but there was no animation, very disappointing, the character moved right but the sprite just bobbed up and down not quite the smooth look I was after so I entered my second command “animate characters walk” at which point it started thinking and exploring possibilities which is where it told me what it was doing such as creating separate frames from the static sprite.

It told me everything else plays as before and that I could open the preview to play, however before trying the preview I was presented with the option to add more rooms, so I did, a chapel and a clock tower with fresh puzzles this meant it was deepening the route to the courtyard. The AI was think and exploring options again creating new painted artwork for both rooms and adding icons and sounds.

It seems to be doing so much considering I've only given it 2 commands, thinking, exploring and editing a lot, all without my input but it does keep me informed of the actions it is taking which is nice.

On completion of the second question I re-ran the game and Jonathan Harker sprite still just bobbed up and down so I asked, again for it to “make the Jonathan Harker sprite walk”, on completion of this command and trying to preview again he finally walks, sort of, the sprite continues to be face on and so it looks like he is shuffling left and right, not quite the animation I was after so I have asked “show character in profile when walking” and we'll see how that turns out. All this before I have even left the room I started in.

It's informed me it is having to redraw the figure in profile using the same style and costume, hopefully this will create a genuine side-on walk and it does, but he does seem to be floating above the floor.

I've asked for another chapter to be added to the game which means I must now sneak past the count's sisters before they wake, once the AI has completed this I think I may ask it refine a few things such as smaller action icons and make them more “Broken Sword” like and also see if I can get Jonathan Harker to stop floating, however at this point I am told I have run out of credits.

Running out of credits is a bit annoying, especially not know when I will receive more credits but I must admit I am happy with the way this is developing. Running out of credits is also why this is just Part 1, there is more to come, just don't know when. Please keep in mind this is a work in progress.
